"Neil Young" is generally regarded as a learner effort but I consider it a natural progression from his work in Buffalo Springfield such as "Broken Arrow", Expecting To Fly" and "I Am A Child". I think that the inclusion of two instrumentals has caused many to regard the album as atypical and hence unworthy but they may be unaware of Young's acknowledged influence by The Shadows and his guitar duels with Stephen Stills. "The Emperor Of Wyoming" is an exhilarating ride which transports the willing through a musical landscape of great beauty. Admiitedly the other instrumental is a short piece of whimsy which achieves little but the album, as a whole, is a delight.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
